smoke alarms

A landlord has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter after two young boys died in a fire at a house where no working smoke alarms were fitted. Kamal Bains, 50, from Birkby, Huddersfield, will appear at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court next Friday, August 18, charged with two counts of the offence, West Yorkshire Police said. Logan Taylor, three, and two-year-old Jake Casey died in the blaze in Alder Street, Huddersfield, in February. Their mother and an older brother managed to flee the house before firefighters arrived. In the wake of the tragedy West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s deputy chief fire officer, Dave Walton, urged people to check they have working smoke alarms in their homes.

What is the difference between a near miss and an incident?

What is the difference between a near miss and an incident?

There are two terminologies commonly used, and even though they’re related it’s important not to confuse one with each other.
• A near miss is a type of incident that could have been an accident if the parameters were changed, such as distance, people, task, or tools.
• An incident involves the injury of a person, equipment or property damage due to the failure of engineering processes, inefficiency of employee’s abilities to do the task correctly, kinetic, electrical, and weather to mention a few.
Simply put, all near misses are incidents but not all incidents are near misses
